NYC Section 8 Housing Lottery Application Now Open
Application Deadline and Process
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has opened its annual lottery for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCVs), a federally funded program that provides rental assistance to low-income households. The application window opened at midnight on Monday, June 3rd, and will last until 11:59 PM on Friday, June 14th.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for Section 8, households must meet certain income and citizenship requirements. Households must also live in New York City, or be able to relocate to the city within 30 days of being offered a voucher.
How to Apply
Applications can be submitted online through NYCHA's website, or by mail. To apply online, visit https://apps.nycha.org/lottery. To apply by mail, request an application by calling 311 or by writing to NYCHA at 250 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10007.
Selection Process
Section 8 vouchers are awarded through a lottery system. All eligible applications will be entered into the lottery, and a random selection will be held to determine which households will receive vouchers. Applicants will be notified of their lottery status by mail.
